Good Enough for Me
Last week, I was all excited about the idea of getting my "Matrix" on, but now that I've read some of the critic's reviews, I'm thinking about passing. On the one hand, I'm dying to spend $6.50 for the right to sit and watch Neo kick high-tech Kung Foo ass in a cold and smelly movie theatre; but on the other hand, I feel as though my $6.50 should guarantee a quality movie. So many people are complaining that the ending sucks... Is it worth it? Let's weigh the options:
1.) Laurence Fishburne looks wicked cool when he's jumping forty feet in the air.
2.) Carrie-Anne Moss and Jada Pinkett Smith wear the best clothes ever in a sci-fi movie.
3.) About two hours of straight of rock solid, whoop-ass action.
4.) Reasons 1-3 override the fact that Keanu Reaves is an awful actor.
Okay, I think we're voting "yes" on that issue. Moving along...
All this talk about movies has got me wanting to upgrade my measly DVD collection. My family isn't really up for buying tons of movies. Aside from "Forrest Gump," and "Saving Private Ryan," almost everything we own is Disney fare. You name it, we got it. "Mulan," "Pocahontas," "Toy Story," "Aladdin..." We're really heavy on the post-modern Disney Classics, if you know what I mean. So whenever anyone over the age of ten shows up for a long visit, we don't really have anything interesting to show them. Mom's already bored us to tears with her "Men in Black II" DVD (Do yourself a favor and never set your eyes on it), and Danielle's started doing private showings of my copy of "Catch Me if You Can." We need some heavy-duty DVD upgrades.
Next time I hit up Amazon.com, I'll probably buy "The Goonies." It's one of my all time childhood favorites. Who could forget Chunk and the truffle-shuffle? Mikey and his chronic asthma attacks? Dana and his bad English? Not me, my friend. That movie was too cool for school, not to mention highly instructional. It taught you how to hide from escaped convicts, find dead bodies in ice cream freezers, and make friends with the mentally ill. What more could you ask for?
