Pork Fat Rules

I wouldn't normally interrupt a perfectly good string of entries with a stupid New Year's list, but my very first class of the quarter was straight-up canceled this afternoon. So now I'm stranded here on campus for two hours with nothing to do but poke around on Diaryland and fill out meaningless quizzes for my (your?) enjoyment (displeasure?).

1. WHAT DID YOU DO IN 2004 THAT YOU'D NEVER DONE BEFORE?
Got in an ugly car accident in the middle of the highway. Remind me never to have that happen to me again.

2. DID YOU KEEP YOUR NEW YEARS' RESOLUTIONS, AND WILL YOU MAKE MORE FOR NEXT YEAR?
Umm... Sort of. I didn't make a public announcement of my resolutions, just because I guess I felt that if I didn't say them out loud, they didn't exist. And if they didn't exist, well, then it didn't matter if I kept them or not.

This year, I'm going all out. I'm keeping detailed notes about the stuff I want to do, just because I'm the kind of person who needs some daily nagging before I can get anything done. I want this to be the first year I can actually say I accomplished something for myself.

3. DID ANYONE CLOSE TO YOU GIVE BIRTH?
My cousin Stacy had her fourth child, William, and my cousin India had her first, Adrian.

4. DID ANYONE CLOSE TO YOU DIE?
My Great-Aunt Lois died of colon cancer.

5. WHAT COUNTRIES DID YOU VISIT?
Absolutely none. Not even Canada this year.

6. WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO HAVE IN 2005 THAT YOU LACKED IN 2004?
God, the list could go on and on. A boyfriend. An iPod. A computer. A better relationship with my sister.

7. WHAT DATES FROM 2004 WILL REMAIN ETCHED UPON YOUR MEMORY AND WHY?
Mid-March, 2004: Martha Stewart is convicted. April 28, 2004: My car accident. June 5, 2004: Ronald Reagan dies. August 28, 2004 My cousin Pernell is married. November 2, 2004: George W. Bush wins re-election.

8. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT OF THE YEAR?
I honestly don't know. I'll get back to you on that one.

9. WHAT WAS YOUR BIGGEST FAILURE?
Never doing anything about the way I felt about myself, either emotionally or physically.

10. DID YOU SUFFER ILLNESS OR INJURY?
Chronic lower back pain and post-traumatic fibromyalgia from the car accident.

11. WHAT WAS THE BEST THING YOU BOUGHT?
I totally redecorated the bathroom for my mother. It was a pretty expensive present (if I do say so myself), but I'm happy with it.

12. WHOSE BEHAVIOUR MERITED CELEBRATION?
Britney Spears finally got married, meaning that I won't have to deal with hearing her trashy voice on the radio until Kevin Federline divorces Britney for her younger sister, Jamie.

13. WHOSE BEHAVIOUR MADE YOU APPALLED AND DEPRESSED?
Kobe Bryant and Scott Peterson. I really wanted to believe Kobe didn't do it, but it turns out that he did, making everything go to hell. And I knew from the get-go that Scott Peterson was guilty, and I was glad to hear that the jury agreed.

14. WHERE DID MOST OF YOUR MONEY GO?
Food. Gas. Books. Phone bills. Clothes. I'm a college student, what did you expect?

15. WHAT DID YOU GET REALLY, REALLY, REALLY EXCITED ABOUT?
Seeing Ben Folds in concert, and being accepted to the University of London's film school program.

16. WHAT SONGS WILL ALWAYS REMIND YOU OF 2004?
"Goodies," Ciara; "The Reason," Hoobastank (I absolutely HATE that song); "All Falls Down," Kanye West; "It's my Life," No Doubt; and just about anything released by Usher.

17. COMPARED TO THIS TIME LAST YEAR ARE YOU:
a) Happier or sadder?: Definitely happier.
b) Thinner or fatter?: You know, I was tempted to say FATTER, but I weighed myself this weekend, and I actually weigh about 5 lbs less than I did this time last year. So booyah, baby.
c) Richer or poorer?: Richer, even though all the money I made over Christmas break is going to go to pay bills and buy necessities.

18. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU'D DONE MORE OF?
Exercising. Family stuff. Writing. Dating.

19. WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU'D DONE LESS OF?
Eating. Bitching. Sleeping. Procrastinating. Worrying.

20. HOW WILL YOU BE SPENDING CHRISTMAS?
At home on the couch, watching cheesy Christmas specials.

21. DID YOU FALL IN LOVE IN 2004?
Not quite. Had a crush or two, but nothing major.

22. HOW MANY ONE-NIGHT STANDS?
Exactly thirteen. And a half.

23. WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE TV PROGRAMS?
"Starting Over," "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" (as always), "Rich Girls," "The Apprentice," "Seinfeld" reruns.

24. DO YOU HATE ANYONE NOW THAT YOU DIDN'T HATE LAST YEAR?
Not really.

25. WHAT WAS THE BEST BOOK YOU READ?
1st place: The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan. 2nd place: Nickled and Dimed: On Not Getting By in America, by Barbara Ehrenreich.

26. WHAT WAS YOUR GREATEST MUSICAL DISCOVERY?
I have several: Sting, Jellyfish, Fiona Apple, Wax Poetic, Thievery Corporation, and Kanye West.

27. WHAT DID YOU WANT AND GET?
A trip to DC this summer.

28. WHAT DID YOU WANT AND NOT GET?
Tuition to cover expenses in London, my own apartment, and a kick-ass internship that would make all my friends jealous.

29. WHAT WERE YOUR FAVOURITE FILMS OF THE YEAR?
American Movie (I know that movie's like, five years old now, but I only saw it this past October), Saved!, Napoleon Dynamite.

30. WHAT DID YOU DO ON YOUR BIRTHDAY, AND HOW OLD WERE YOU?
When I turned 20, I went job hunting. I was hired at the very first store I stopped in.

31. WHAT ONE THING WOULD HAVE MADE YOUR YEAR IMMEASURABLY MORE SATISFYING?
Lasagna. A boyfriend. French kissing. Peanut brittle.

32. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL FASHION CONCEPT IN 2004?
I'm currently obsessed with everything and anything in the Gap and Banana Republic. Of course, that doesn't mean I have the money to actually wear any of that stuff. Right now, the college slacker attire seems to suit me best: Jeans, t-shirt, and a faded hoodie. Day-old ketchup and mustard stains around the collar are also a must.

33. WHAT KEPT YOU SANE?
My mother.

34. WHICH CELEBRITY/PUBLIC FIGURE DID YOU FANCY THE MOST?
John Mayer and Kanye West.

35. WHAT POLITICAL ISSUE STIRRED YOU THE MOST?
Election 2004! Same-Sex Marriages! California Kelp Scandal! The Louisiana Purchase!

36. WHO DID YOU MISS?
I know this is going to sound pathetic but... Matt.

38. TELL US A VALUABLE LIFE LESSON YOU LEARNED IN 2004
Whatever appears to be going on around you on the outside is only a reflection of what's happening on the inside.

39 QUOTE A SONG LYRIC THAT SUMS UP YOUR YEAR.
I'm gonna make a mistake
I'm gonna do it on purpose
I'm gonna waste my time
'Cause I'm full as a tick
And I'm scratchin' at the surface
What I find is mine...
I'm gonna fuck it up again
I'm gonna do another detour
Unpave my path
And if you wanna make sense
Whatcha lookin' at me for?
I'm no good a math
"A Mistake," Fiona Apple; When the Pawn...
