In Retrospect
You know, the thought of New Year's always kind of bothered me... I've never been a person to get excited about change, and so this New Year's Eve business freaks me out a little every year. Even though I sit in front of my TV and watch the ball drop on Dick Clark's "Rockin' New Year's Eve," I cannot bring myself to believe that the year has really come to an end. I mean, really, where did all the time go? Just when I was getting comfortable with good ol' 2003, somebody up and decides that we've got to usher in a new year poste haste. Somehow, I just get lost in the shuffle. While everyone else is making plans for birthdays and weddings bat mitzvahs throughout 2004, I'm still trying to piece together what the heck happened to me throughout this entire year.
I have a hard time letting go of the past. I guess this is part of the reason I don't have the heart to toss my 2003 Spongebob calendar. Of course, it isn't 2004 just yet... It'll be safe for another sixteen hours or so.
Anyways, here are my highlights of 2003...
GOOD THINGS
- Met Alina (Technically, we met in 2002, but who's really worried about that, huh?)
Found Diaryland!
Learned that it really is cool to listen to "sissy" piano pop like Ben Folds.
Discovered that I can be really comfortable going out by myself.
Fell in love (or what I thought was love) several times.
Lost approximately twenty-five pounds.
Got a little closer to my mother.
Got hooked on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, What Not to Wear and Trading Spaces.
Got closer to God.
Flew to Chicago.
Quit my job at Target.
Managed to survive my first year of college.
Realized that I tend to make life a lot more complicated than it needs to be.
Bought new underwear that doesn't feel (or smell!) like grandma's.
Became good friends with David, Ayana, Alex, and Erin S.
Became a bit closer to my Aunt Terri
Watched NBC's unauthorized Martha Stewart movie... Twice
Proclaimed my hatred for thongage around the world.
Learned a good deal of Spanish from eavesdropping on Alina's long-distance conversations.
BAD THINGS
-
Had awful fights with my father (I still hate him for everything he said and did).
- Talked to Matt again, and on more than one occassion.
Realized the guy I had a crush on all throughout high school was gay.
Flirted with a gay guy at work until he came out and told me the real deal.
Gained back about twenty pounds after a lengthy diet pause (Bah, a net loss of about four pounds?).
Ate Chelsea's Cheez-Its when she wasn't in the room.
Endured large amounts of intolerable cruelty as a result of being one of Jennifer's roommates.
Currently without a job.
Found out dog has cancer.
Got sick more in one year than ever before.
Became addicted to VH1's "I Love the 80s"
Currently living at home with the parents.
Spent a good deal of spring quarter trying to avoid Mark from the 21st floor.
Bombed out of Nanowrimo after the first two days.
Didn't get my cherished RA job (sniff, sniff).
Tossed away my favorite pajama bottoms.
What a year, huh? What a year.
