Running on Empty

I'm ashamed to say that my home state of Ohio is currently the national embarrassment of the Electoral College. Move over, Florida. It's our turn to wear the national dunce cap.

Why were people forced to wait for hours in order to place their votes in districts that had only a handful of booths? Why did the courts allow for party hecklers to hassle voters all day long? How is it that the one thing that could blow this election for John Kerry could come down to a hundred thousand votes altogether?

I stayed up past 1:00 this morning, hoping that the Bush edge in Ohio would disappear, but I wasn't too happy when Tom Brokaw broke the news that Dubya would most likely carry it. How in the world could this happen again? And in my hometown, no less.

I'm sitting here running all the possible numbers in my head, hoping and praying that it won't come down to Bush. It can't happen again. It just can't.

PS: I must be using way too much Neutrogena in the morning, because now the corners of my mouth and the upper part of my chin are all dried out and pasty. I look like I spent election night snorting crack.

PPS: No matter what happens in God-forsaken Ohio, I can rest knowing that I finally got tickets to see Ben Folds this Saturday in Bowling Green. It's not much, but it helps.
