Like a Good Neighbor...

For the first time in a while, I really don't have the words to say what's been going in the past few days. I'm just... exhausted. I guess that's a good word for it. Exhausted and overwhelmed.

I was in a car accident on my way to work Wednesday night. Some petite soccer mom slammed her Grand Caravan into the back my Civic while merging into the on-ramp of I-270. My trunk, my bumpers, my fenders, and the passenger sides of my car are completely crumpled. The turning signal is broken. The brake lights are smashed. There's cracked paint near my window. An ODOT clean up guy had to literally saw away at my right fender just so that I could drive it off the highway. There are now pieces of my car sitting along the passenger seat.

My car has been totaled.

Luckily, the woman has insurance, so most of the payments will be coming out of her pocket. She ended up being cited for a "failure to yield," which is pretty much legal speak for "driving like an idiot." At least, I think so.

Mom and I drove [what's left of] my car to some body shop/detailing place off of Powell Road Thursday night. The guy says there's at least six to seven thousand dollars worth of damages. Six to seven thousand. And that's not including the jacked up trunk, or the sliced off fender. I'm going to end up having to get another car altogether.

What's sad is that I really loved that car. You always have a special spot reserved for your first. And even though I wanted a VW Beetle when I turned sixteen (I grew out of that, thank God), I was just as pleased to have my Civic parked in the driveway.

Poor car.

What's worse is the fact that the woman hit me so hard from behind, that I've got spinal injuries in the small my back. I can't sit up straight in a chair for more than ten minutes without wanting to lay down. I'm not allowed to sleep on my stomach anymore, or practice any more rounds of Pilates (Which means I will continue to get fatter everyday). And there's this weird little lump of God knows what that slides back and forth around my spine. Mom says it's probably a ball of spinal fluid. I say it's just plain gross.

Now I've got to juggle all these insurance claim calls from State Farm:
"Can you give us an assessment of your injuries?"
"Could you describe the accident for us in detail?"
"Were there any passengers in the car with you at the time?"
"Your policy, number D12-839-3857, allows $25,000 for the treatment of your current injuries..."

I'm just sick of it.
