Stop the Bus, I Want to be Lonely
The problem with living smack-dab in the middle of Ohio ("The Heart of It All," as described by the former tagline of our state license plates) is that we're far too often lost in the shuffle. I mean, we're not far enough (or cool enough) East to be a part of the Eastern Seaboard states, and we're not really considered to be a Midwestern state, mostly because we're not really in the "middle" of anything. When I think of the Midwest, I come up with places like Iowa or Missouri--but definitely not Ohio. We're kind of in a regional limbo, recently choosing to group ourselves with the likes of Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia for the self-proclaimed title of the Mideast.
But just what the hell is in the Mideast? Does anybody outside of this small group of states really know? I hate to say it, but we're pretty much non-existent. Unless you're lucky enough to live in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, nothing ever happens. Nothing. It's like the one part of the United States that no one knows anything about... Except for maybe a few cows and corn--a title that we have to share with the likes of Midwestern states like Iowa and Wisconsin. It's like we can't have anything to ourselves.
...Just where amI going with this entry?
Your guess is as good as mine.
