True Dat

In lieu of spewing about my own political views, I'm going to let someone else do it for me, courtesy of buddababy:

"It surprises me how much of our country is unworldly; how many of us never leave this country to see what the rest of the world is *really* like. People are very nice outside this country. Yes, all people. WE ONLY HEAR THE BAD THINGS ON THE NEWS. There are many people who buy the Bush lies about world terrorism coming out of Iraq. There are many, many countries in the world (including the USA, UK, Germany, France, Russia, China...) who all have weapons of mass destruction. As if we had any right to tell anyone else they cannot. What arrogance!

There's a reason most of these nations stayed out of this war with Iraq and not the previous Gulf War. Both times it was about our interests in oil (the US oil industry has an investment in Kuwait), but this time around we tried lying to the world about terrorism threats. This time we tried to take control of the second largest oil reserve in the world, which happens to be in Iraq. Bush lied to the world. I'm glad the true finally coming out in this election."

Anyway, in the not-so controversial political arena... It really irks me that I didn't get to enjoy a day off for Columbus Day. I mean, I go to a state-funded university; don't all governmental and state-funded offices get a Columbus Day observance? But nooo... When you're a student at the second largest school in the country, you don't get the luxury of observing holidays at their Congressionally appointed time. Here at Ohio State, we observe Columbus Day and Veteran's Day as part of Thanksgiving Weekend. Like that makes sense. What the hell happened to having the Wednesday before and the Friday after Thanksgiving off just because? I've been totally gypped of not one, but two, count 'em, two holidays. And to top that off, I live in the freaking state capital, which is, duh, Columbus, Ohio. Of all the places to neglect to celebrate the inaccurate navigation of Christopher Columbus, you'd never think that Columbus, Ohio would be one of them. I mean, really. We have a life-sized replica of the Santa Maria sitting in the middle of the river downtown. Don't tell me that isn't good for something.

I let go of my non-branded individuality this weekend by buying a sweater from the Gap (I really wanted this one, but I have fat looking shoulders, so wouldn't be doing anyone a favor by leaving them out in the open). I'm quickly becoming a product of mass-marketed advertising. You might as well tattoo "GAP" on my ass.

Random, I know. But I'm too tired to care.

Best Part of the Day: It's finally over.

PS: Sandy's birthday was last Thursday. Leave her some belated love.
