The Next Item Up For Bid
You know what's sad? The announcer from "The Price is Right," Rod Roddy, died yesterday. It kinda puts this funny kind of lump in my throat. "The Price is Right," is just classic, man. You can't mess with that. Everytime I ended up missing a day from school, I would sit around my television and watch Rod call (usually) ugly middle Americans up to the gaudy stage with Bob Barker for their shot at Plinko. The show went on even when I wasn't able to watch it, but I knew that everytime I came back, I'd be greeted by the same familiar voice and cheesy groove music. He was always yelling out names from the top of that stage in his bright-red sequined jacket, always making sure to have some careful network-censored banter with Bob before proceeding to the descriptions of the items up for bidding. I secretly believe that Rod spent the last few months of his life shacking it up with some of Barker's Beauties--you know, living the good life?
Things just won't be the same.
He died from both colon and breast cancer (Yes, men have breasts). I can't imagine having two types of cancers at the same time. It's just depressing. I'm amazed that he ended up living as long as he did.
Speaking of celebrity deaths, I just realized that the year 2003 has almost come to an end... Which means that the 7 year Tupac theory has yet to come into life. I wonder what all the die-hard Tupac fans are going to do if nothing happens by the time we hit January 2004... Are they going to burn down buildings? Sacrifice lambs? Set fire to their 50 Cent CDs? Who knows; the whole thing's just crazy. My whole interpretation of the 7 year theory is pretty whack, anyway. I keep picturing Tupac crawling up from out of the ground, and then walking straight to New York for a guest spot on "Regis and Kelly," as if he's really planned the whole thing all along. I wouldn't put it past him.
